Residential School

Commissioners Resign
Truth and reconcilition commission
What are the job requirements? Who can apply for commissioner? What is the job description?
Is this still holding up the process, what's left to do?

Wasauksing and Parry Sound Area News ON Georgian Bay

News that affect me, my family, my community local news.
The local news from online news ~ Parry Sound news net.
Their page has index/contents listed by news providers.
ParrySound. com NewsTopix. net - Parry Sound NewsCanada Free PressGlobe And MailTheStar comToronto SunToronto LifeZeuter News Groups and cbc.
Parry Sound Paper, issued 2 once a week on Wednesdays, that the main paper, a secondary paper on Saturdays.
Scanning headers, topics in order of importance to me, scanning through the list, my first choice is the wind power article, why? Our FN was working a project.
Local people had had there ideas express, protesting development that would be harmful to the environment and its habitants, time to catch up.
Had no idea it would be the WFN project, Surpriced.
Had no idea where that project was at. Recall, as a employee, licensing was in the works, also documentation changing hands along with information and governing discissions and approvals. There had been community mtgs and uncertainty in the community. I am in agreement with the ED move to use resouses available.
There are unanswered questions about the reasons app was denied.

Without going to that article I sorted the 9 item into order of important.

1. Courthouse Overall /w pictures Front Page News- 2 days prevously I had spotted the/a photographer at location while picking up mail. Figured he was with the local paper. hmmm wondered where he worked and what was his job title.
2. MPP Clements - Politics
3. CEO - Resigns - Health (hospital)
4. PS Poor - Health, Social, Politics
5. PS Poor ~ Feature - next featured individual announced, fn member, male, minority, alcoholism, council candidate. ( I was inquired about, to participate, I surely will not)
6. PS Poor ~ Seniors
7. MPP Clemnts - PR (Education, Science, Space)
8. Public Awareness - paint
9. Crime - court, assault charges

Identified Issues, ...lay out of information, emotions, interest stories to follow.

A jobs program that fails

Labour Market Re-entry program, WSIB - Workplace Safety & Insurance Board.
Rehabilitation in basic math and language, since Nelson Fachola mained his hand at work.
Nelson Fachola's academic upgrading cost $33,000 over 18 months, considerably more than tuition for a four-year undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto. It was hoped he would find work doing data entry and shelf stocking that paid $11 an hour.

Questions?

We, somebody, identified newspapers as being conservative, liberal etc; why? and how is that done? Is it done for all media?

Conservative Government's Budget09 Aboriginal Overview

The Budget, I'd like to make some sense out of the information.
"These investments bring the amount of new funding that this Government has announced for Aboriginal Canadians since 2006 to almost $6.3 billion."
I'll have to check to see if this info is in any of the mainstream news, and watch for the public's response/comments.
Actually it doesn't excite me, there is never enough to get around to all the nations.

pick one anyone

Here I just picked a article from Slate. Not for its PR content, just that in the first couple of lines I read, it said he was one of the best writers for The New Yorker"! I will have to find time to read the article.

Kinsey

And I was reading, seems like for ever, and enjoyed the content of the article about kinsey, his story on deciding to switch jobs from CNN to Microsoft to write a on line newspaper, actually his life journey. Very Interesting and I haven't finished reading the article.
I am trying to get to read a newspaper everyday, and what I have to do to keep up to date is read online newspapers, my choice has been the globe and mail.

This story in the business section, with a quote from someone who didn't want to be named, as the ceo is handed subpoenas. So much for their PR - Bank of America and Merrill Lynch.

Monday Jan26 Just had to read some news!

http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=1219121

Posting a news article regarding raw milk sales, didn't have a quote from anyone in Public Relations. just a interesting story that could be a Public Relations news story at some point.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/26/AR2009012600729_pf.html
Washingtonpost - Today' Show's Secret Sauce : An article my Howard Kurtz, this guy (recommended reading) can write on and on, I've printed this and will get around to reading the article, later.

http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=1217433 and this story about First Nations Peoples. Not good for FN's people, that any monies received is always linked to more failures, which is featured in this story.
This was someone's comment on that story : Butterfly J, Monday, Jan 26, 2009
I can't speak for the other posters, but my point was that there is an obvious fallacy in the argument being made by this article, by INAC (if they really belive what was quoted), and by some native leaders. People are apparently attributing suicide and deaths to the CEP. Suicide, depression, and substance abuse are mental health problems. You can't fix anything if you can't properly identify the problem.

Follow Up

today is sunday
Been reading the information in the binder. Almost finished the native learning styles section, find info interesting. Saturday(yesterday) spent the day with family and friends, always thinking about Public Relations and shared what I am doing what I have learned so far.

Haven't picked up a newpaper since Friday, the internet is dialup, very slow and get knocked off when someone is calling my home. Will be able to catch up weekdays at the FN Leaning centre were there is high speed internet.

Jan 21, 2009

day 2, my blog, I'm in, at least as a blogger"
Public Relations Indigenous Public Relations, what i thought it was: advertising and marketing! after reading the program outline, looking for a program to apply for, I realized it was much more then that, now that i am here, well there is just so much to learn, only day 2 and i really like where this is all going. always liked to read the newspapers, so picking up a newspaper to study is alright with me.
my pick of the day:
Globe & Mail - Report on Business - pg B7: HBC gets $70 Million Boost
Why did I pick this one? "Promises "Lots of New Things" A new US owner of Hudson's Bay Co. puts money into the company to improve its retail, pay down some debt and looking at opening new stores in the future. there is a quote in the article " Canada is much, much stronger, and much more stable, compared to what going on in the United States". Real estate mogul Richard Baker.
I thought it was good news going out to the public, especially since I myself like that retail store HBC. Reading further into the article the dollar amount are greater and also the new owner & the money is American, which changes my perception, since I would like to see a Canadian being successful, be even better if the change came from an aboriginal indigenous person/money.
my original pick was the front page about President Obama's call to duty, emphisizing "a new era of responsibility" there was a lot of planning to get to this momentous event that had convinced the US citizens to vote in a man of colour as president.
That's it! that's all for today.
